Default What is the difference between airline miles accumulated with a credit card,

versus flying on a actual flight? Hello,

This question has perplexed me for years. I have a United Mileage Plus Visa Card that I use to accumulate miles. To get to the point. What is the difference between the miles I accumulate by purchasing something with my United Mileage Plus Visa Card (which I see during a quarterly statement) and the miles I supposedly accumulate (but never see) when I check in to the air carrier counter (any Star Alliance Airline) before a plane flight, show them my United Airlines Mileage Plus Number and supposedly get miles for the length of the flight I fly on. Where do these miles go. I never see them added to the miles I accumulate by using my United Mileage Plus Visa Card. Am I suppose too?

Does anyone understand what the hell I'm saying, because I have called United Airlines, my Visa company, and nobody knows what the hell I am talking about. Thank you. :<)

You need to create an online profile on the United Airline's website which should show the combined total amount of miles you have for your visa account miles plus the actual air miles you've accumulated on Star Alliance flights. Here's the website for that:
https://www.ua2go.com/ci/Login.jsp?return_to=mpsummary&country=US
The miles you actually fly will not show up on you Visa statement, but your Visa miles should show up on your United Airline's account. Basically the miles from your credit card are the same as miles accumulated from flying, but will not count toward elite status on the United Airlines or Star Alliance frequent flyer programs.

Listen to the last answer.

Its likely that its going to two different spots OR you've got two different mileage numbers; one that is tied to your credit card and another, thats likely older, that's tied to miles flown.

Look at it this way - if you didn't have the mileage card from United...... you should be able to log in at www.united.com using the mileage number on your card to view your miles.

If you have a cc that accumulates miles... you should be able to view your miles when logging into that credit card.

But you've got a UA credit card, so the most I can say is that you've got a synching issue!

Try calling them again - if your simple explanation doesn't cut it... tell them, I flew on 10/01 from ORD to IAH please tell me where those miles are?

If you do have two mileage numbers they can combine those easy, that is of course, easy enough once they understand your issue...

Have fun!

You get one mile for every dollar spent on the Visa.

Are your air miles not showing up on your United Plus mileage account? (Go to the website, sign in using your mileage plus number and check.) If they aren't, you can request that they be added; they have a form online.

You need to provide the number when you book the flight; or go to the UA customer service counter when you land.

I think that's what you're asking.
