Default How can I avoid chargebacks through fraudulent use of credit cards online?

Yes I know all about Paypal seller protection scheme but if not covered by the scheme because the buyer has not confirmed an address, what other steps can I take? I have recently suffered a chargeback through the fraudulent use of a credit card. The fact that I could prove delivery etc was irrelevant. I have started checking whether people are listed on the electoral roll, phoning them etc but what else can I do to protect myself?

Ohh I can help you here for sure!

I know its hard being the Merchant, because you take risks with customers every day. But you still want to protect yourself, them too!

This number can be used:

Visa: 1-800-847-2271

This is for Visa cards. Its completely automated - all you do is put the CC Number, Address and Zip and they will tell you if the Address and Zip match the Credit Card. Works for US/Canada.

We ask all International Customers to send a letter (through pdf computer or fax) stating that they allow the oversea charge from COMPANY for AMOUNT.

We also use a great processing company that has enhanced protection. Try AuthorizedNet

Good luck

Sorry, also forgot... ship all packages with Signature Confirmation. When fighting a chargeback supply the following information:

- Tracking Number (Showing the package was shipped to the address they requested and shows delivery confirmation)

- Original Order (Showing that the BILLING and SHIPPING address are the same)

- All email correspondence between you and the customer

If the billing and shipping are the same its nice to say something like "Please notice that the billing and shipping address and name are the same on the Customers order. Because the package was delivered to the requested address the only person who could've benefited from the chargeback is the customer"
