Default Are AMEX credit cards considered as "prestigious cards," setting aside rewards, etc?

I understand majority of AMEX cards ask for high standards for qualification. So is having an AMEX card similar to owning a Mercedes or Lexus versus a Chase or Bank of America credit card?
