Discover Card.
Not only do you get the cashback bonus, but they have special cashback bonus programs you can enroll in throughout the year and get an additional 5% back on purchases (in the spring, they run extra back on purchases from home improvement places, during the summer, it is gas and hotels, around back to school time, it's Sears and Penney's and Kohl's and places like that). Just keep in mind that you aren't automatically in the promotion, but have to go to their website online and register when it comes time to register (usually about a month before the program starts).
Plus, if you shop through their website online, you can get back 5-15% of your purchase in the form of a cashback bonus simply by using their website to shop from. (They get a merchant fee, I'm sure, and just pass that back on you you).
And, you get 1% back on everything else all through the year without having to sign up for any promotions.
I charge betwen $800-$1500/mo on Discover and pay it in full each month. I usually get back about $600-800 in cashback rewards each year by using the regular cashback program, enrolling in the special 5% programs (and timing purchases to wait until the program for that particular type of merchandise starts), and shopping through their website when I want to buy something else. You can even double that if you choose to get your reward in the form of a gift card instead of a check or a credit to your account.
