Default When is it appropriate to ask for a limit increase on your credit card?

My credit isnt wonderful, I do have one card from chase in ok standing/The account for the chase card is closed due to me not paying, but I am paying it off in full so they wont send it to a collections agency. I am on a payment plan.So far so good.

I have a capital one card in good standing, never late and never maxed out. I want to ask for a limit increase on it. When is it a good time to ask? After 5 consecutive payments? Does my chase card effect my chances of getting a limit increase with capital one?? THANKS!
